Agro-horticulture Based Livelihood Promotion

Demonstration and propagation of improved technology and practices in agronomical crops to increase production and productivity that leads to income enhancement. Some of key technology and practices are:

  • System of rice intensification and single sapling plantation in paddy crop
  • Line sowing mechanically and manually in arahar
  • Zero-till technique for wheat sowing
  • Intercropping of pulse crop (short durations) in sugarcane just for additional income during lean period
  • Stress tolerance paddy ‘Swarna Sub-1’

Introduction of high value crops (horticultural/cash crops) in existing crop cycle with technology and practice related up gradation for income enhancement of farmers

  • Propagation of soilless media (coco-peat) for seedling production and raised bed plantation of tomato and chilli
  • Tissue culture in banana cultivation promotion with improved practices such as fertigation
  • Improved cultivation of onion with special focus on variety ALR and sulphur use
  • Year-round trellis (machan) cultivation of cucurbits and shade loving crops and root crops
  • Promotion of river-bed farming of cucurbit crop

Cost reduction in irrigation

  • Through facilitating solar irrigation pump installation and drip irrigation system

Soil Health Improvement

  • Awareness generation among farmers for soil testing, soil samples collected and use of fertiliser followed
  • Promotion of coordination compost pit
  • Promotion of dhaincha as a green manure

Reduction in use of kanda (cow dung cake)

  • Piloted use of smokelss stove
  • Promotion of household level biogas plant
  • Promotion of dhaincha and arahar on the bunds/periphery of cultivable plot

Collectives for services

  • Promoted two shade net nurseries, self-managed by a group of women farmers/SHGs, serving in two villages for seedlings of high value crops as well as plantation crops, with proper management and book keeping.
  • Promoted two custom hiring centres (common facility centres - CFCs), equipped with women friendly drudgery reduction tools/equipment used in agricultural practices.
